Asia-Pacific Payment Methods

Shoppers across the Asia-Pacific region check out with local e-wallets and real-time bank transfers far more often than with international cards. Dodo Payments supports GCash (Philippines), Alipay HK and FPS (Hong Kong), and Touch ‘n Go (Malaysia), each billed in its local currency.

Why Asia-Pacific Wallets Matter

Wallet-First Markets

GCash and Touch ‘n Go are the default way to pay online in the Philippines and Malaysia, well ahead of card entry.

Low Card Penetration

Card ownership is limited across much of the region. Local wallets and bank rails reach customers that card-only checkouts miss.

Instant Settlement

FPS clears bank-to-bank in real time in Hong Kong, so payments confirm during the checkout rather than hours later.

All four methods are one-time only. None of them support subscriptions or any other recurring charge. Always include credit and debit on subscription checkouts so customers in these markets can still sign up.

Customers pay in their local currency and you receive settlement in USD, the same as every other non-USD method.

Method Details

GCash (Philippines)

GCash is the Philippines’ largest e-wallet, used for everything from bills to online shopping. Customers approve the payment in the GCash app and are returned to your success page.Offered on one-time checkouts billed to the Philippines (PH) in PHP.

Alipay HK (Hong Kong)

Alipay HK is the Hong Kong edition of Alipay, operated for the local market and settling in Hong Kong dollars. It is a separate method from the mainland China Alipay product.Offered on one-time checkouts billed to Hong Kong (HK) in HKD. Alipay HK settles in HKD only, so it does not appear on a CNY checkout even when the billing country is Hong Kong.

FPS (Hong Kong)

FPS (Faster Payment System) is Hong Kong’s real-time interbank transfer network, run by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority. Customers pay directly from their bank account and the transfer clears instantly.Offered on one-time checkouts billed to Hong Kong (HK) in either HKD or CNY.

Touch 'n Go (Malaysia)

Touch ‘n Go is Malaysia’s dominant e-wallet. Customers confirm the payment in the Touch ‘n Go app and return to your success page.Offered on one-time checkouts billed to Malaysia (MY) in MYR.

Requirements

For these methods to appear at checkout:

Billing country matches the method’s market — PH for GCash, HK for Alipay HK and FPS, MY for Touch ‘n Go
Currency matches the method — PHP, HKD (or CNY for FPS), or MYR
Payment type is a one-time payment, not a subscription
For merchants priced in another currency: Adaptive Currency must be enabled so customers are billed in the local currency

If you price in another currency and Adaptive Currency is not enabled, customers in these markets will not be billed in the local currency and none of these methods will be available.

Best Practices

Lead with the local wallet

In the Philippines and Malaysia, the local wallet is the primary way customers expect to pay. Listing GCash or Touch ‘n Go alongside cards materially reduces abandonment.

Offer both Hong Kong methods

Alipay HK and FPS serve different customers — wallet users and bank-transfer users. Include both on HKD checkouts so Dodo Payments can present whichever the customer prefers.

Keep cards on subscription checkouts

Because every method on this page is one-time only, a subscription checkout that lists only local wallets has nothing to show. Always include credit and debit for recurring plans.

Match currency to region

These methods require their local billing currency. If your catalog is priced in USD or EUR, enable Adaptive Currency so customers are quoted and billed in PHP, HKD, CNY, or MYR.

Troubleshooting

Method not appearing at checkout

Check:

Billing country set to PH, HK, or MY to match the method?
Billing currency set to PHP, HKD, CNY, or MYR to match the method?
Is this a one-time payment? None of these methods appear on subscriptions.
The method (gcash, ali_pay_hk, fps, or touch_n_go) included in allowed_payment_method_types?
If priced in another currency: Adaptive Currency enabled?

Solution: Remove allowed_payment_method_types temporarily to see every eligible method, then narrow down which condition is failing.

Alipay HK missing on a CNY checkout

Cause: Alipay HK settles in HKD only. A checkout billed to Hong Kong in CNY offers FPS but never Alipay HK.Solution: Bill in HKD to offer Alipay HK, or include fps for CNY checkouts in Hong Kong.

Wallet missing on a subscription

Cause: GCash, Alipay HK, FPS, and Touch ‘n Go are all one-time only and are never offered for recurring billing.Solution: Use credit and debit for subscriptions in these markets.

Payment not confirming

Cause: These methods redirect the customer to a wallet app or banking app. If the customer abandons the app, the payment stays incomplete.Solution: Monitor webhooks for the final payment status rather than relying on the return redirect. See the Webhooks guide.
